    Western National is in search of a Senior Scrum Master to join our team!  This exciting opportunity offers a candidate the opportunity to further their knowledge and skillset within the IT project world and help assist our organization as we grow our tools to support our customers.


    The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Scrum Master or Project Management experience within the IT world. This role will work closely with multiple facets of our organization and will follow the Agile Methodology.


    • Understand key business objectives and strategy of the product and help communicate to the team in partnership with the Product Owner.
    • Partner with Product Owner to support and lead business case development through governance.
    • Lead meetings regarding story mapping, sprint/release planning meetings, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives and demos. 
    • Lead the daily scrum meetings and structure the conversations focusing on the current day plans, roadblocks on the work and the overall sprint goal.
    • Foster and coach the team for adoption of Agile tools and practices. 
    • Prioritizes improvements based on the team’s direction, introducing process changes one at a time.
    • Schedule prioritized work from sprint planning within Portfolio for Jira. 
    • Understand and communicate any dependencies and logical order needed to the Product Owner to best execute the sprint and to achieve the sprint goal.
    • Serve as the liaison with other product teams and scrum masters including shared services (integration, enterprise data warehouse, security and network operations) to coordinate work dependent upon another team. 
    • Provide schedule visibility of the dependent work to the product team.
    • Own, establish, track and report on productivity and efficiency metrics of the product team.
    • Provide visibility into progress by maintaining backlog, burndown charts, velocity analysis and other metrics. 
    • Own the communication needed outside of the team with other Scrum Masters or Stakeholders.  This includes communication regarding implementations and system outages to manage business expectations.  If needed, manage the communication through the Product Owner.
    • Work with the IT management team to secure variable capacity resources and onboard them once the Product Owner receives external funding approval. 
    • Pro-Actively manage the variable capacity budget.
    • Provide QA support, development support or write user stories based on the needs of the team and skills of the scrum master.
    • On non-Agile projects (for example Data Center Co/Lo, certain upgrades etc), position will operate as a traditional Project Manager.


    • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master (or equivalent experience) working in an Agile environment managing product and demonstrating coordination of development, user experience design and business stakeholders
    • Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices (Jenkins)
    • Must be an excellent communicator, able to gain the respect of the team, external stakeholders and leadership
    • Demonstrated ability to understand business needs and execute on business strategy
    • Demonstrated ability to understand technical approach and drive technical discussions
    • Strong conflict resolution, negotiation and leadership skills
    • Previous experience as a SR. Project Manager.
    • Previous experience working in technical system environments with Agile Tools (such as JIRA).
    • Influential leadership skills on a product team without direct supervisor responsibility. 
    • Ability to facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning or dictating the work.
    • Guiding the product team on self-organization.
    • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
    • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially on refinement and maintaining the backlog.
    • Providing support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example.
    • Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Computer Science or MIS or equivalent experience.
    • Scrum Master Certification or equivalent training.
    • Product Owner Certification desirable but not required.
    • Project Management Professional certification helpful but not required.
