    Western National is in search of a Senior Developer to join our team!  This role offers a candidate the opportunity to further their knowledge and skillset with a focus on RPG Development. This role will work closely with multiple internal systems to offer support.

     

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience in RPG Development and experience working with internal systems with a preference on billing systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with IT teams to define business requirements, perform analysis and provide recommendations for new systems or modifications of current systems.
    • Provide technical expertise for large complex projects.
    • Perform the technical code review on projects and applications.
    • Provide timely updates on current and potential production issues which affect projects or production service level objectives; escalate issues when necessary.
    • Provide technical support and development for vendor supplied software packages.
    • Make recommendations on difficult problems.
    • Provide guidance for less experienced developers.
    • Participate in evolution of company level software development best practices, standards, and policies. 
    • Regular contact with internal customers and employees across the organization.
    • Occasional contact with outside vendors.

    Qualifications

    • 5-7+ years of RPG Development experience, including RPG ILE and freeform.
    • Previous experience or willingness to learn Java is preferred.
    • Experience with the Agile methodology is a plus.
    • Previous experience with Billing Systems is a nice to have.
    • Experience in the Insurance industry with focus on P&C insurance is nice to have.
    • Demonstrated aptitude towards problem identification and resolution.
    • Proven aptitude for technical decision ownership and providing projects/team direction.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop, test and support software applications.
    • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Demonstrated aptitude for leading all phases of the software development lifecycle.
    • Proven ability to organize deliverables to accomplish multiple priorities within specified timeframe.
    • Proven ability to effectively coach and mentor team members.
