Western National is pleased to announce an opportunity to join our Personal Lines Underwriting team as a Trainee. This exciting opportunity is the perfect chance for someone who is interested in taking the Underwriting career path with a Wards Top 50 company.

 

The ideal candidate will have a college degree and interest in participating in an extensive trainee program to gain knowledge and experience in Underwriting Personal Lines business.

Responsibilities

  • Gain basic knowledge of the insurance industry including the regulatory and legal environment.
  • Develop an understanding of personal lines products, rating methodology, coverage forms and endorsements.
  • Learn to use established practices, procedures, and authority level to analyze exposures of different types of risks to modify, renew and write new policies.
  • Develop and utilize own understanding of risk, exposure and overall book performance to identify and maximize opportunities to meet loss ratio and growth opportunities.
  • Learn how to extract internal data and research external information to identify trends impacting personal lines performance.
  • Gain knowledge to monitor and review personal lines portfolio to meet organizational and department goals.
  • Build strong relationships through regular contact with agents, underwriters and employees across the organization.
  • Achieve designated milestones in the development of skills necessary to succeed as a personal lines underwriter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Ability to follow process and attention to details.
  • Able to multitask, solve problems.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn basic data extraction and manipulation functions.
  • Negotiation and relationship building skills.
  • Analytical with ability to exercise sound business judgment.
  • Willingness to work toward CPCU. 
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
