Overview

Western National is seeking an experienced, detail oriented and analytical Commercial Underwriter to join our growing Seattle team. This position will evaluate, classify and price business within an established level of authority. Effectively manage an agency territory to achieve established growth and profit goals while building and maintaining strong agency relationships.

Responsibilities

Job Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Develop a commercial lines book of business with assigned agencies.
  • Manage larger, challenging, and more complex commercial business and agency assignments.
  • Utilize understanding of assessing risk and exposures to identify business opportunities to maximize assigned territory loss ratio and growth objectives.
  • Meet business goals through new business development, renewal retention, and overall profitability of assigned territory.
  • Travels to assigned agencies to build on agency partnerships and promote/negotiate higher agency ranking position.
  • Builds and maintains strong agency relationships with the goal of increasing an agencies book of business and/or profitability.
  • Serves as a mentor providing technical support, training and problem solving for other underwriters on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications

Job Requirements and Qualifications 

  • 2-4+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience. 
  • Bachelor degree in Insurance or Finance or equivalent related experience.
  • Working toward CPCU, AU, or CIC certification
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with agents and other departments and also exemplify superior teamwork.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of industry best practices, standards, and commercial multi-line underwriting concepts including broad business segment knowledge.
