Western National is seeking a motivated Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager to join our Seattle office and the underwriting management team. This position will manage a commercial lines underwriting team through profitable growth and staff development. The position will also contribute to the execution of agency management strategies through developing and building lasting relationships with agency partners.


Job Duties/Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies to achieve a balanced, profitable and quality book of commercial lines business
  • Select, coach, develop, and retain staff to achieve company, departmental and individual goals
  • Act as a referral underwriter for the underwriting staff. Provide feedback and technical guidance to underwriters as needed
  • Actively seek opportunities to promote company’s products and services
  • Interprets and executes policies and guidelines
  • Applies knowledge to help solve problems of multifaceted scope and complexity
  • Identifies and analyzes patterns from partial and/or conflicting data, identify and implement appropriate solutions
  • Develop and maintain highly effective business relationships with agents as well as internal and external customers



Job Requirements and Qualifications


  • Bachelor Degree in Insurance or finance; or equivalent related experience
  • CPCU, AU or CIC certification preferred
  • Business Analytics
  • Build Relationships
  • Strong negotiations skills using sound judgement and initiative
  • Intermediate/Advanced Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • Basic/Intermediate knowledge of CSC PointIn system or similar policy administration system
  • ImageRight or similar file imaging work platform
