Western National is seeking a Lead Database Developer to lead the Database Development team in the development and implementation of data collection systems, ETL processes and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality for the company.  Serve as a consultant to company management and business teams to define data related needs for the company’s strategic objectives; design and deliver accurate, timely and actionable information to decision-makers at all levels of the organization.


The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of database development experience, is an expert in writing SQL code and has a demonstrated ability to work with and lead other team members. Previous experience leading/managing a small team is a plus as this role will manage 2-3 other resources and help work closely with other Data team members.


  • Develop and maintain an understanding of key processes to effectively communicate with business stakeholders and project teams.
  • Partner with business departmental teams to define and document business processes for new metrics and reports.
  • Lead the design, development, testing and implementation of data collection systems, ETL processes and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Lead and manage 2-3 staff members in developing effective reporting tools for the business unit.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.
  • Partner with solution delivery teams to enable BI applications that have long-term value.
  • Teaches, tailors and asserts control during interactions with business partners and favors challenging over relationship-building.
  • Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and works with customers to uncover unmet business needs.
  • Performs ongoing monitoring and refinement of reports and BI solutions.
  • Identify and define new process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide training on data analysis, data management and related topics.
  • Writes or works with BI tools and analytic applications to allow business users to access and analyze data in a data warehouse or mart.
  • Responsible for testing, monitoring, and validating the data warehouse activities.


  • 5+ years’ experience as a Database Developer.
  • Previous experience leading/managing a small team of technical resources is a plus.
  • Technical expertise regarding the use of data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • Intermediate knowledge of and experience with C# and/or Java technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
  • Demonstrated leadership that creates and supports teamwork, innovation and open communications within the team.
  • Strong knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated; handles multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strives to meet deadlines; works additional hours to meet goals, complete projects and provide support for production systems.
