Overview

Western National seeks an Underwriting Support Specialist to join our growing Surety team in our Western Region Surety office in Phoenix, Arizona.  The Underwriting Support Specialists role is to help support our Surety Underwriting team by entering and processing Surety Business, provide support for Commercial Surety and help provide high level customer service to our customers.

This exciting opportunity will provide a person an opportunity to grow and learn in a dynamic yet team focused environment. This role will work closely with multiple parties both internally and externally and will be given the chance to grow their career within the Surety space.

Responsibilities

  • Enter bonds in e-Surety and reconcile upload errors between e-Surety and CHIPS for all offices nationwide.
  • Handle routine transactional commercial surety submissions within assigned territory with assistance from underwriter.
  • Renew commercial surety bonds, correct errors, process riders/endorsements within the CHIPS environment.
  • Process daily cancellations and reinstatements.
  • Process new agent appointments including set up of agents in our ARM and Connect systems.
  • Type and prepare bond forms.
  • Interact with team members to produce a quality product and accomplish over-all team/department goals.
  • Consult with Underwriters on unfamiliar risks, tasks and question changes outside of authority levels.
  • Frequent contact with agents via phone and email.
  • Redistribute mail as needed.
  • Prioritize tasks on a daily basis.
  • Handle special projects when requested.
  • May serve as a backup to the Commercial Surety Underwriting team.

Qualifications

  • Two to three years’ experience working in an office environment, preferably in insurance or financial services.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Windows (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Good numbers aptitude and high level accuracy rate (i.e., 99% +).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment and manage stress.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer service/relationship skills.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Accurate and strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple priorities with flexibility.
  • Ability to work additional hours to meet deadlines and/or complete projects.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion.
  • Previous experience with Surety is preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; some college preferred.
