Western National is seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join our growing organization. This position will work closely with multiple business units throughout the organization helping to support data extraction and analytics needs.

  • Help achieve the company’s objectives by providing meaningful reports and analysis relating to premium, losses, expenses and business processes.
  • Participate in trend analysis and ad hoc data related activities; effectively communicate insights to customers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Understand, extract, validate / correct and define data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Assess data quality, troubleshoot data anomalies and coding errors, maintain data and reporting integrity.
  • Collaborate with data warehousing team by prioritizing and defining requirements and testing data elements.
  • Join data elements from various source systems; build data sets that allow for various types of aggregation.
  • Collaborate across several business units including Commercial Lines Underwriting, Personal Lines Underwriting, Marketing, Research and Development, and the Data Warehouse Team to identify opportunities to improve company performance.
  • Update and enhance existing reports and create or modify dashboards that help end users better understand their book of business.


  • Previous experience in data mining, analysis and reporting is required.
  • Advanced MS Office skills with strong focus on Excel is required.
  • Experience with SQL and ability to create queries to extract data.
  • Experience extracting data from an enterprise data warehouse and core operating systems.
  • Familiarity with coding languages such as SAS, Python and R.
  • Experience with different data visualization tools including Power BI, Tableau and Cognos.
  • Ability to accurately identify, document and recommend solutions to business problems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in insurance is beneficial. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
