Overview

Western National is seeking a Java Developer to provide our team with assistance in all aspects of the software development lifecycle; design, development, test and implementation of new and existing applications.

 

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of Java development experience and is comfortable working in an Agile environment.  If you are looking for a challenging position in which you can create value by enhancing the use of our current applications, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Work with IT teams to implement application enhancements based on business requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting software application issues.
  • Prepare and execute unit tests on all new and modified code.
  • Prepare technical design specifications, flow charts, and data flow diagrams to communicate software delivery, updates, and enhancements.
  • Work with change control team to ensure quality deliveries.
  • Meet required deadlines as outlined by project team and business partners.
  • Identify potential modifications/enhancements in existing applications to meet the changing needs of the business partners.
  • Identify opportunities that can help improve efficiency of business processes through software enhancements.
  • Assist in preparing work estimates for assigned projects.
  • Regular contact with customers and employees across the organization.
  • Occasional contact with outside vendors.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with REST Web Services; experience with SOAP is beneficial.
  • Web service integration experience required; microservice experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with SQL; SQL Server preferred.
  • Strong experience with JDBC and ORM technologies; experience with JPA(EclipseLink) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HTML/5, CSS3, and JavaScript; experience with jQuery is beneficial.
  • Experience with MVC frameworks.
  • Experience with Tomcat and WebSphere server containers are preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent training/education/experience required.
